Hello Everyone! I know, a post two days in a row. Shocking.
I think we made the right choice for the counters in the kitchen. We chose a quartzite, it is called Super White. It is somewhere between a granite and a marble. Phil is in Boston so he hasn’t seen it in person yet, I’ve been sending him photos. But really, the photos don’t do this rock justice.
The island is a a little over 10 feet long. It took 5 men to carry it in. And they were struggling. I think they could have used 5 more.
They estimated it to be well over 900 lbs. Some of the guys were saying they have never installed a single piece of stone this large, they usually seam them in order to make it easier to install.
Some more pictures of the stone
Have a great evening. Please leave a comment we love hearing from you.

Love the Super White. Might have to use it in my kitchen…if we ever get around to redoing it. In fact, could you just send me all the specs for your kitchen? I think the footprint is about the same. Hahaha!

found you via VEB and your counters are lovely and I like the kitchen sink placed so it faces a window. We have owned about 10 homes 54 years of marriage and a sink that faced a wall was totally unacceptable. if we have to do pots and pans why add in having no other distraction than a blank wall? staring at a wall? can’t do it.

What color wall paint did you use with the super white?
Karen Viscito Interiors said:
Thanks for the question, Sharon. The whole house was painted Gray Owl when we moved in. I kept the color in the kitchen. I liked the way it worked with my stone. I’d suggest taking a fan deck (you can borrow one from your local paint store if you don’t have one) and hold it up to your specific slab. They all seem to vary enough that I wouldn’t just take a suggestion based on someone else’s experience. The color of my island was pulled from the darker gray in the stone, and the perimeter cabinets were matched to the background of the stone. Hope this helps.

was that installed without plywood base?
Karen Viscito Interiors said:
Hi Linda,
Sorry, I didn’t see your question until now. Yes, there is no plywood under that counter.

Love the countertop. Are you having any problems with stains or chipping?
Karen Viscito Interiors said:
Thanks Pam. Crazy as many people think this is…we sold that house! No problems with chipping and no issues with staining. However, it did etch–sort of. But the etches were smooth, but gray. And luckily only I could see the marks. They blended in. Only perfect circles (there was just one) caught my eye. Lemons and limes would only etch it if left on for extended periods (based on my testing of a sample). The juice from a squeezed lemon didn’t instantly etch it, like marble etches. Get a sample and test the heck out of it! Good luck.

What type of backsplash did you do with this counter top? Do you have photos of that to share?
Karen Viscito Interiors said:
Hi Holly, We ended up using a beveled arabesque tile from Mission Stone & Tile, in a white. I did a post about installing it.

Are you happy with the super white quartzite? I’ve heard that it is prone to chipping and water stains. Would you do it again?
Karen Viscito Interiors said:
Sorry for the delay in responding, I’ve been away. Yes, I loved that stone. I would do it again. Hard water did leave some marks, but it really did not bother me in the long run. Not sure I would say it is prone to chipping, but like any other natural stone, it will chip if you drop something on it. Get a sample, and test it! Good Luck

Do you have photos of how you dressed this with lights etc ? Just ordered the same top for our kitchen. Thanks

Sorry – I’ve found the photo x

Sorry Kathryn, I’ve been away and just saw this. Glad you found photos.

Karen. How is your quarzite holding up? I have had most places talk me out of using it I love the super white.
Karen Viscito Interiors said:
Hi Gwen, thanks for the question. Last time I saw the counters it was 2016. At that time, they were holding up great. Just keep in mind that they can have issues with etching. Not a terrible, rough to the touch kind of etch, just a gray shadow, that only the owner can see if there is light hitting it from the right direction. I would use them again in a heartbeat.
Get a sample and test the heck out of it.

I picked this counter too too for my new kitchen but what did you do for a back splash?
Karen Viscito Interiors said:
I used the beveled arabesque tiles from Mission Stone & Tile. It was my 2nd time using them.
I do have a tutorial here on the blog for DIY.
Thanks for the question.

Late reply!!! Sorry! Stone Masters in Kennett Square

Karen do you remember the color you used on the island with the super white paint? I know every slab varies in color but love that color?
Karen Viscito Interiors said:
Late reply! It was a custom color. Sorry

Beautiful. I am obsessed with my super white I just installed. I went with matte instead of polished so the dark veining really stands out. Your pictures helped me in my decision

Glad I could help! I know how hard it is to make decisions without seeing pictures.
